Description / 1793 1C Liberty Cap Beaded Border PCGS VG10BN
This particular piece last appeared at auction in a Heritage sale from 2016. The Liberty Cap motif is the scarcest of the three major types of 1793 Cents. The Sheldon-13 is identified by two beads over the I of LIBERTY on the obverse and a parallel leaf under ME of AMERICA, pointing to the adjacent A. Save for the EN in CENT, the legends are readily legible. Some slight planchet streaks are noted through the E in STATES and the R in AMERICA. Free from relevant abrasions, the surfaces do show the moderate granularity that is typical of circulated early copper. This is noted in the left obverse field beneath the cap and at the center of the wreath. The portrait is quite smooth and attractive. The deep chocolate-brown color is consistent over both sides. So much nicer than most encountered for the issue.
