1838 50C J-73 Restrike Pattern PCGS PR64

Lustrous fields are toned in a vibrant halo of electric blue toning.  Golden fields are enhanced by a whisper of peach overtones. Great eye appeal. Liberty faces left on the obverse, and a flying eagle dominating the reverse. There is speculation regarding the designor of this pattern.  Originally believed to be Kneass, but argument can be made for Christian Gobrecht, since the face of Liberty bears a strong resemblance to her counterpart on the Liberty eagle dated 1838. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Medallic alignment. An earlier die state without the radial crack through the U in UNITED.
