With a mintage of just 22,850 coins, and the majority of pieces not nice enough to straight grade at PCGS or NGC, the 1872-CC quarter is one of the most highly sought after dates in the entire Liberty Seated quarter series. While this coin did not get the "green bean", it certainly is still in the top of it's class of extant specimens for the grade, in my opinion! The detail is more VF than Fine with full LIBERTY visible on the shield to the naked eye. The rest of the design elements are quite crisp as well. Toned in a pleasing, even, steel gray hue throughout. A couple of faint old-time scratches are noted in the field near stars 12 and 13 and beneath Liberty's foot, but they need strong magnification to be seen. If you pass on this piece, you could be waiting a signifcant amount of time before a comparable piece makes an appearance!
